Nem aqui nem na China

Minha contribuição para uma reportagem de TRTWorld sobre as expectativas da fracassada visita de Lula à China, publicada em 27/03/2023.

How strategic for both countries are the geopolitical gains of Lula’s visit to China? Zero. The strongest Brazil/China relationship is their interdependent foreign trade. China is highly dependent of Brazil’s commodities, especially on food.

Lula faces serious domestic hurdles prioritizing permanent campaigning and a polarized political climate. Facing similar context during his first presidency, he had faced away from domestic politics to building his personal international profile.

Brazil needs renewed expectations about Lula’s promises of stopping deforestation. After 100 days in charge, deforestation more than doubled in Brazil. China is no good choice to touring in pursuit of restoring international trust.
